Global Shipping
The Clean Shipping Alliance (CSA) is an alliance representing leading companies in the commercial shipping and cruise industries. These companies have been at the forefront of emission control efforts, investing heavily in research, analysis, and the implementation of Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems (EGCS) to comply with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) global sulfur cap that came into effect on January 1, 2020.
Mission and Vision
Founded in 2018, the CSA aims to:
- Provide information and data: Share knowledge on the environmental performance and benefits of open- and closed-loop EGCS, including associated air and water emissions.
- Advocate for industry: Support companies striving to reduce marine exhaust gas emissions.
- Support IMO regulations: Promote the effective implementation and enforcement of the 2020 global sulfur cap.
- Share technical advances: Inform the industry of technical solutions and improvements for efficient, low energy operations.
The CSA vision is to support the use and effectiveness of EGCS to achieve shared environmental and sustainability goals across all shipping sectors.
Membership
The CSA represents over 3,000 ships across its member companies, and a total of over 4000 ships across the marine industry.
Impact
The CSA believes that EGCS technology plays a crucial role in:
- Improving air quality: Reducing emissions that contribute to air pollution in ports and surrounding areas.
- Protecting marine environment: Avoiding any potential impact from EGCS emissions on the ocean.
- Advancing global environmental progress: Reduced WtW contributions of CO2 to the atmosphere; exhaust cleaning systems are also needed for onboard carbon capture.
